Class: DeliverySystem

How a treatment's active agent is carried to its target - the formulation platform, any targeting ligand on the carrier, the receptor that ligand binds, and the cell type the carrier is aimed at. Attach via the delivery_system slot on a Treatment of any modality: the carrier is a property of the formulation, not of the payload chemistry, so an mRNA lipid nanoparticle, an albumin-bound small molecule, a liposomal cytotoxic, and a GalNAc-conjugated siRNA are all described here by the same four attributes.

Two facts that used to be inexpressible are the reason this class exists. A carrier could only be recorded inside oligonucleotide_details, so no non-oligonucleotide formulation had a home for it - nab-sirolimus and liposomal irinotecan were curated with the carrier visible only in free-text prose. And there was nowhere to say what a targeted particle is aimed at, which is the whole claim of a receptor-targeted nanomedicine: an anti-TREM2-coated mRNA lipid nanoparticle is aimed at tumor-associated macrophages, and that is a citable, falsifiable statement about the delivery system rather than about the drug.

The targeting slots are optional and an untargeted carrier is a normal record: a PEGylated liposome relies on passive accumulation and has no ligand, no receptor, and no target cell type. Leave them absent rather than asserting a target the formulation does not have.
