Enum: ModuleCategoryEnum
Areas of study a mechanism module is relevant to. A category asserts "this module is relevant to this area of study" — it is a discovery and browsing aid, not a mechanistic claim and not a classification of the diseases that conform to the module. Multivalued and deliberately non-exclusive: a drug-toxicity module is both TOXICOLOGY and PHARMACOLOGY, and an antiviral drug-target module is both PHARMACOLOGY and INFECTIOUS_DISEASE. Applied through the module_categories slot, which is intended for entries under kb/modules/.

permissible_values:
TOXICOLOGY:
text: TOXICOLOGY
description: Injury caused by exposure to a xenobiotic — environmental toxicants,
poisons, occupational and dietary exposures, and adverse drug reactions modelled
as mechanism rather than as an outcome. Includes drug-toxicity modules and any
module whose trigger arm carries a toxicant or drug exposure.
title: Toxicology
PHARMACOLOGY:
text: PHARMACOLOGY
description: 'Drug mechanism of action and therapeutic targeting: modules built
around a molecular drug target, a therapeutic modality, or an acquired-resistance
pathway that gates drug choice. Typically carries the target_mechanisms drug
pattern.'
title: Pharmacology
ONCOLOGY:
text: ONCOLOGY
description: Tumor biology and cancer therapeutics — the hallmark-of-cancer capability
modules, tumor-microenvironment mechanisms, and cancer-specific therapeutic
vulnerabilities and resistance patterns.
title: Oncology
INFECTIOUS_DISEASE:
text: INFECTIOUS_DISEASE
description: 'Host-pathogen mechanism and antimicrobial therapy: pathogen entry,
replication, persistence and immune evasion, together with the antibacterial,
antifungal, and antiviral drug-target modules.'
title: Infectious disease
IMMUNOLOGY:
text: IMMUNOLOGY
description: Immune-mediated mechanism — innate and adaptive immune activation,
autoimmunity, hypersensitivity, chronic inflammation, and the immune contribution
to tissue injury and repair.
title: Immunology
NEUROSCIENCE:
text: NEUROSCIENCE
description: 'Nervous-system mechanism across the central, peripheral, and sensory
systems: neurodegeneration, synaptic and circuit dysfunction, excitability,
neurodevelopmental patterning of the brain, and neural waste clearance.'
title: Neuroscience
DEVELOPMENTAL_BIOLOGY:
text: DEVELOPMENTAL_BIOLOGY
description: Morphogenesis and embryonic patterning — signalling gradients, segmentation,
cell-fate specification, and migration defects whose lesion acts during development
rather than in mature tissue.
title: Developmental biology
METABOLISM:
text: METABOLISM
description: 'Intermediary metabolism, bioenergetics, and cellular quality control
of metabolic substrate: inborn errors of metabolism, mitochondrial and lysosomal
function, nutrient sensing, and storage or intoxication phenotypes.'
title: Metabolism
AGING:
text: AGING
description: Geroscience mechanism — the hallmarks of aging and the age-associated
processes (senescence, telomere attrition, stem-cell exhaustion, proteostasis
and genome-maintenance decline) that drive late-onset disease.
title: Aging
