The twelve interconnected hallmarks of aging proposed by López-Otín and colleagues in the 2023 expansion of the framework, represented by eleven DisMech mechanism modules. The inflammaging module intentionally covers both altered intercellular communication and chronic inflammation because it models their shared systemic inflammatory convergence.

The six hallmark capabilities, two emerging hallmarks, and two enabling characteristics described by Hanahan and Weinberg in the 2011 framework, represented by ten DisMech mechanism modules.

The mechanism modules that upstream epilepsy entries reach on their way to recurrent seizures. Epilepsy is not one mechanism: distinct lesions in inhibitory-interneuron development, presynaptic vesicle release, postsynaptic scaffolding, cortical growth signaling, and repeat-RNA toxicity each drive a different route to the same endpoint, and each has its own treatment logic. The collection groups those upstream lanes together with the shared excitation-inhibition convergence module they feed. Membership records that a module is an evidenced route to seizures or to excitation-inhibition imbalance in at least one curated DisMech entry; it does not claim the lanes are exhaustive or mutually exclusive, and a single disorder commonly conforms to the convergence module plus one lane.
